What is the GI Bill?

The GI Bill is an amazing piece of legislation that provides education benefits to military personnel after service. There have been several forms of the GI Bill, including the Montgomery GI Bill and the more recent Post 9/11 GI Bill. All of them have the same basic principal, to help rehabilitate and provide a future to military veterans when they complete service.

The GI Bill may provides the following benefits(Depending on which version of the GI Bill you are covered under).

  • Coverage of tuition fees with accepted higher education institutions
  • Assistance for housing costs
  • Assistance for supplemental materials
On top of this though, the real benefits of the GI Bill go even deeper.

These military benefits allow veterans to take their military training, skills and knowledge, then adapt those skills to civilian life.

The skills and training you receive in the military give soldiers a huge advantage over civilians. The discipline and organization alone are a great start, but it goes much deeper.

Most soldiers learn addition skills, and many military personal are trained extensively in occupations as wide ranging as mechanics or logistics. Higher education can help enhance your existing military skills with either academic or practical education.

While most Military Veterans use their GI Bill benefits to re-purpose their military training towards a civilian career, some choose to turn over a new leaf.  If you grew tired of your position in the United State Military, you can use your veteran benefits to train in an entirely new field.
